Arch of Severus and Church of St. Luca

The arch of Septimius Severus, the Roman commander who, in the second century, defeated the Parthians, in the area that today is Iran, was built in the year 203. It is on the Via Sacra in the Forum. The church of Saints Luca and Martini, was commissioned in 625, by Pope Honorius I. It was restored in 1256, and rebuilt by painter and architect, Pietro da Cortona, in the sixteen-hundreds. The Academy of St. Luca, a group of architects, sculptors, and painters, was given the church in 1588.
