Skappo, New Haven, CT

Skappo was founded on the idea of bringing to people a dining experience encompassing food, wine, friendship, music, and a love of central Italian cuisine. The name Skappo comes from a poem written by St. Francis in the 12th century, which talks about “escape” from the trials of life – “skappare.” And since he was from Assisi, our matriarch Anna is also from Assisi, and we wanted to have a place where people could come into our group and escape from the everyday, Skappo was a perfect fit. Our menu was fashioned after typical Umbrian foods, and prepared each day. And if we ran short, Anna was there to quickly make more gnocchi! Anna would also be present to share conversation with each and every diner, while Marc would play guitar and sing. Michael and Yvette would be out in the dining area assisting our new and old friends with menu selections, while Tom would help in the kitchen. Lots of friends and lots of memories.
