Washington Hall, West Point
Washington Hall, the Mess Hall of the U.S. Military Academy, was appropriated $177,063 by Congress in 1923 for construction. Originally constructed between 1925 and 1929, there were additions in 1946, 1965, and 1969.
In 1936, George Pearse Ennis completed one of the stained-glass windows, entitled, "Life of Washinton."
Covering the south wall is a mural by T.L. Johnson, 70 feet long by 35 feet tall. The mural displays 20 of the most important battles, military leaders, and arms in history, from Cyrus of Babylon to World War I.
Flowers painted on the ceiling beams represent countries which colonized America.
The Mess Hall can now serve 4,000 cadets at one sitting.
Print fits in a mat size of approximately 10-3/8 inches by 7-15/16 inches.
